National Mathematics Day is celebrated every year on 22 December across the country. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. His contributions to mathematics are significant. The celebration of this day was started on Ramanujan’s 125th birth anniversary (22 December 2022).

Every day is something special in our country. Every year, the 22nd of December is observed as National Mathematics Day. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Let us tell you that this day was started in the year 2012 by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, after which every year tribute is paid to Srinivasa Ramanujan and the contribution made by him is remembered.

Who was Srinivasa Ramanujan

Srinivasa, born 22 December 1887 in Erode. He was born in a Brahmin family. He was fascinated with mathematics since childhood. He had mastered trigonometry by the time he was 12. Due to this, he was awarded a scholarship to the Government Arts College in Kumbakonam and he continued his further studies from here. Here he could not succeed due to non-mathematical subjects.

After this, he went to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1913 and received a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from there. He became the first Indian to become a Fellow of Trinity College. After his studies and due to deteriorating health, he returned to India in 1919. After this, his health continued to decline and finally he died on 26 April at the age of just 32.

On this day, first of all, we have to remember the mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and pay tribute to him and also convey his contribution to the children as well as all the people of the country. Along with this, we have to create awareness about mathematics, create awareness and interest in mathematics among school children and also encourage young talents through various mathematics competitions.

Srinivasa Ramanujan has compiled about 3900 results (Equations and Identities). Apart from these works, he also brought to life another important work involving the infinite series of Pi. He created many such formulas and equations to calculate the digits of Pi which were different from the traditional methods and were very accurate.
