How to Become an IAS Officer?
To become an IAS officer, an aspirant must pass the Civil Services Exams held by UPSC. The officers who are successful in doing so are directly recruited. In other cases, they are recruited from state civil services. The chance of success in passing the exams is about 0.02% and that is the reason why IAS officers are highly respected. Once an IAs is recruited, they are sent for training to Uttrakhand at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration.
Eligibility Requirements for Becoming an IAS Officer
The Civil Services Exam is famous as one of the toughest exams in the world due to the extremely low success rate of the exams. It is conducted offline. The lower age limit for the exams is 21 years, while the upper age limit is 32 years. The candidate must be a graduate from a reputed university and those who are in the final year of their graduation can also appear for the examination.
What is the Exam Pattern for Civil Services Exams?
The Civil Services Exams are conducted in three phases and the candidates must pass all three of them to be recruited as an IAS officer. The first stage will be the Prilimery exams which will be a 200-mark paper of objective questions. The second stage of the exams will be the main exams. It will consist of 9 papers in total, 2 of language, 4 of General Studies, 1 of essay and 2 other optional papers. The last and final stage will be Interviews. Those who pass both stages of written exams will be called for a Personality Test at the Dholpur House in New Delhi.
