PM Awas Yojana Bihar: is expected to get 2 lakh additional Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) sanctioned in the current financial year. The Centre has given this assurance on the request of the state’s Rural Development Minister. This step has been taken in view of the Bihar Assembly elections to be held next year. Bihar had demanded 6.50 lakh houses from the Centre, out of which 2.60 lakh have been sanctioned so far.

On the request of the state’s Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, the Central Government has assured to approve two lakh more Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in the current financial year. Probably in view of the assembly elections to be held in Bihar next year (Bihar Assembly Election 2025), the Central Government is continuously showing generosity.

Actually, Bihar had demanded 6.50 lakh Pradhan Mantri Awas from the Central Government in the current financial year. In comparison to this, only 2.60 lakh Pradhan Mantri Awas have been approved so far. Whereas, the Central Government has assured to provide two lakh more houses in the current financial year in comparison to the remaining 3.90 lakh.
It is noteworthy that due to Bihar not getting any target for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PM Awas Yojana) from the central government for the last two financial years, the number of claimants has reached more than 13.50 lakh. This includes the waiting list of the financial year 2022-23 and 2023-2024 as well as the current financial year i.e. 2024-2025.
PM Awas Yojana Bihar: More than 38 lakh people got benefit
Since the financial year 2016-17, the NDA government has built houses for more than 38 lakh poor people in Bihar under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin. If the figures of urban areas are added, then a total of 1.5 crore people have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the last 10 years.
The important thing is that the preparations for conducting a survey to provide benefits to new families under this scheme are in the final stage. After this, a list of new beneficiaries will be prepared.
Agreement between the central and state governments to implement the urban housing scheme
A one-day workshop was organized in New Delhi on Monday to better implement the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0. Bihar also participated in the workshop chaired by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal. During this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the state’s Urban Development and Housing Department and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, New Delhi, to implement the scheme.

Secretary of Urban Development and Housing Department Abhay Kumar Singh highlighted the issues of problems and solutions arising under the affordable housing scheme component in the partnership. It is known that in the recent state cabinet meeting, the state government has decided to give Rs 1 lakh per residential unit to the beneficiaries of the scheme for affordable housing. Under this, the central government will also provide assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh.
PM Awas Yojana Bihar: Beneficiaries will get double the amount
Let us tell you that the state government will now give Rs 1 lakh to the beneficiaries per residential unit under the housing construction (BLC) and affordable housing in partnership (AHP) component under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Earlier, in the beneficiary based housing scheme, the state government used to give assistance of Rs 50 thousand per residential unit to the beneficiaries. After the new system, the state government’s annual expenditure on the scheme will increase by Rs 1 thousand crore.
This much subsidy will be available on home loan
Under the PM Awas Yojana, if the beneficiaries of economically weaker or lower-middle income group buy a house on home loan, then they will get a maximum of Rs 1 lakh 80 thousand as subsidy on loan interest. For this, the beneficiaries will have to register on the portal of the scheme during the mission period. This subsidy will be given by the central government.
